"What If?" Myths & History what is it?
As we all know, history is important, what choices our ancestors made affects us now.
This is a workshop that discusses what would have happened had we made other choices?
The reason is simple: to learn about history is a lesson, at least partly in consequences, and to fully appreciate that exploring those consequences and what could have happened brings history and social choices more sharply into focus.
What would have happened if the people of London had decided to support William rather than Harold in the 11th century?
If Rome had refuted Caesar and stayed a republic etc. etc.
These things have consequences and taking part in them helps understand those consequences.
So how does it work?
The participants are given figures, either from history, or that we can believably speculate where there to play the part of, then given the turning point we are looking at. They have the information that the people at the time had, and they have their own goals that are given to them with their characters.
They make the decisions and then, using group discussion, we speculate and evaluate what their decision would have meant from what we know of history...
The consequences of their choices could change history as we know it...
Costs: Approximately £160 for a workshop tailored to the needs of the group and the curriculum if necessary. It will depend on the group and the travel.
